The Govt. Polytechnic College, Bhikhiwind was established by the Punjab Govt in the year 1996 as a co-educational institute. Initially, one diploma course was started during the same year in the one important stream of Mechanical Engineering(Industrial Engg ) with an intake of 30 students and increase this intake as 60 in 2003. In the year of 2007 one more course of Computer Engg.was started with intake of 45 students. Later on ,not only was one new course of Electrical Engg. Started in July-2008 with intake of 30 students but the intake of Computer Engg. was also enhanced from 45 to 60 students. The 4th course of Electronics and Communication Engg. was also started from the session July 2009 with intake of 30 students. The college, with its campus spread over an area of 14 acres approximately.
